It’s Getting Hot in There
Reports indicate that the air conditioning at KDHX has been out for several days now - at least since Sunday. Put that together with the damage from the leaky roof, and things are not good in the building we spent so much time in. It’s possible the AC has been fixed by now, but we don’t know yet. Either way, it’s further evidence of the management follies that could so easily have been prevented. If they would have treated their volunteers as if they were valued members of the community, things could have been so very different.
RIP Jay Schober
Jay Schober, co-host of The St. Louis Brain Sandwich program on KDHX for over twenty years, passed away a few days ago. Schober and Jim Findlay were possibly the first stars at the radio station. Certainly, their antics every Sunday from noon to 3 pm were must-hear radio for a long time. Schober had a fascinating life - at various times, he was a writer, a professional wrestler, a councelor, a psychiatric evaluator, and he ran a restaurant. He was also a plain great guy, and friend to many of us in the KDHX world. He will be missed.
Here’s a great interview Jean Ponzi did with Jay and Jim for an episode of Earthworms back in 2020.
Mark Hyken Bolts for Roots FM
For twenty years, Mark Hyken’s Time Warp Radio show had been a staple of KDHX programming. Despite his longevity, station management insisted he appear in person for a daytime meeting during his work hours, and refused to allow him either an independent observer or the ability to hold the meeting over Zoom. So, Mark said farewell, and can now be heard doing the same show at the Roots FM online station. He’s on Tuesdays from 8 pm to 10 pm, and it repeats on Thursdays from 2 pm to 4 pm.
