KDHX Wants to Sell Out the Community
On Tuesday, Mar. 25, KDHX announced it has reached an agreement with K-LOVE, a corporate network of 589 evangelical radio stations playing syndicated programming across the country, to sell the license for 88.1 FM and the tower which allows the station to broadcast. This was not unexpected, as K-LOVE had already given the station a loan to allow it to continue operating, which pretty much revealed that the endgame was this sale. On Wednesday, Board of Directors President Gary Pierson gave a Zoom press conference in which it was learned that the sale is for between 4.35 and 4.8 million dollars, depending on how quickly it can get done.
While this is not good news to anybody who appreciates the value of community radio in St. Louis, it was long telegraphed. There will be a second bankruptcy hearing on Apr. 16, and if KDHX and K-LOVE wanted to discuss this sale with the judge on that date, they had to announce the plans 21 days before. Nothing has changed with the efforts of our lawyers - they have known for some time that this could happen, and all the plans to try to prevent it are still on the table. This is a long way from over.
We are heartsick that this shining beacon of locally produced volunteer programming is being sacrificed for no good reason. There are resources in this town which could have prevented this slow-motion tragedy and which can still help prevent it from going any further. The League of Volunteer Enthusiasts (LOVE) of KDHX is dead set against this sale, and we know that we are joined by a very large percentage of all who loved and listened to the station over the past 37 years.
Candlelight
Join us for a community gathering and candlelight vigil at KDHX (3524 Washington Ave) on Monday, March 31. 6:30PM-8PM.
The community remains troubled by the recently announced bankruptcy of KDHX and the threats to this irreplaceable treasure.
While the announcement of a sale agreement between KDHX and K-Love, Inc., a conglomerate of broadcasters out of Franklin, TN, is disturbing, it is not unexpected. It changes nothing.
This agreement is not final. Neither the US Bankruptcy Courts, nor the FCC, nor the Associate Members of KDHX have approved this sale. A hearing has been set for April 16, 2026.
We believe in keeping KDHX live and local. We believe in preserving community radio -- now and for generations to come.
The candlelight vigil will be a peaceful, reflective, and positive event. It is not a protest, and it is not a wake. It is not about anger. It is about hope, unity, and remaining vigilant.
Together, we will raise our spirits and voices to express our love for KDHX.
What: A candlelight vigil at KDHX, with music, speakers and a procession. Candles will be provided.
When: Monday, March 31. 6:30PM-8PM
Where: Larry J. Weir Center for Independent Media (KDHX) at 3524 Washington Ave. St. Louis.
Why: To keep KDHX alive and local. To defend the 88.1 FM license. And to preserve community radio for generations to come.
Who: The whole community!
Mayoral Candidate Weighs In
We were pleased to see this post on Facebook from Cara Spencer, who is running for Mayor of St. Louis. “The value of KDHX to the St. Louis arts and small business community cannot be overstated. The recent news that the board has resolved to sell both the radio license and tower to an out-of-town conglomerate is deeply concerning.” She goes on to say that she believes St. Louis has the resources to save KDHX as a community radio presence.

Playlists
Brian Lock has updated our Spotify and youTube playlists once again. He says: I once read that repetition makes magic rise. This week's original mix is "When You Get There, Stay There."
A collection of tunes to test that theory.

Something to Read
Last week, KDHX posted on its website some charts purporting to show how they’ve wound up so short of money. The Mound City Messenger put out a great rebuttal to these charts, and we think it’s worth a few minutes to see what they say.
